Over the years, MUAC has been the home club for many famous athletes including Olympic and Commonwealth Games and world championships champions, medallists and competitors.

200 races for Beaumont as White Train takes masses to Sandown

hbWhite Train stalwart Hamish Beaumont marked his 200th race for Melbourne University Athletics Club on Saturday 28th August in fine style as MUAC fielded seven teams at the Sandown Relays and came away with some pleasing results. Twenty nine members of the White Train completed two laps of the Sandown Racecourse in round 7 of Athletics Victoria’s XCR ’10 season of road and cross country racing.  > read more

Brimbank Park Cross Country

There was stirring amongst the White Train, for the word had passed around,

That the Geelong cross country course had had its day,

And AV had chosen Brimbank – a far rougher, tougher ground,

But undeterred we gathered to the fray.

All our tried and noted athletes, from the suburbs near and far,

Knew they’d make it round that legendary course alright

For our runners love hard running, where’er the course marker flags are

And we stormed up Brimbank’s mountains with delight.

The 17th of July saw the 6th round of the XCR season kick off at Bundoora in conjunction with the all-schools cross country races. The race sees competitors braving fearsome cross-winds as they tackle what is purported to be the highest point in metropolitan Melbourne – the awesome Mount Cooper.  > read more

Coliban Ekiden Relays

rowdyThirty Melbourne University Athletics Club runners battled the elements on Saturday, 10th of July to race in round five of Athletics Victoria’s XCR ’10, the Coliban Ekiden Relays.  The White Train fielded six teams for the point to point relay over the challenging terrain from Harcourt to Bendigo on a day that tested the mettle of the athletes and the organisational skills of the teams.  > read more

No half measures on the Gold Coast

Gold Coast Marathon

Picture 1Three Melbourne University Athletics Club athletes have recorded impressive performances at the Gold Coast Marathon Festival.  Lisa Weightman, bound for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi to represent Australia in the marathon, won the half marathon in 1:09:00, a new personal best, and a race record.  Lisa’s time now puts her sixth on the Australian all time rankings for the half marathon.  MUAC Winter Team Captain Sarah Emons went out hard at the start of the race and was rewarded with 20th place in a time of 1:23:29.  Lachlan McArthur, Lisa’s husband, ran well paced race to come 18th in 1:08:53.  Congratulations!
